  • Frequent respiratory infections
  • Lack of energy.

Diagnosis & Treatment

Diagnosis at Lotus Clinic

COPD is diagnosed based on symptoms, a physical exam, and a lung function test called spirometry. A chest X-ray or CT scan can also help to get a detailed look at the lungs.

Treatment Options

Treatment can ease symptoms, decrease the frequency and severity of exacerbations, and increase your exercise capacity. It includes quitting smoking, medications like bronchodilators, pulmonary rehabilitation, and oxygen therapy in some cases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is COPD the same as asthma?

No. While they share some symptoms, COPD is a progressive disease most often caused by smoking, while asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition often beginning in childhood and related to allergies. The treatments also differ.

Is it too late to quit smoking if I already have COPD?

No, it is never too late. Quitting smoking is the single most effective way to slow down the progression of COPD and improve your health, regardless of how long you have had the disease.
